Deluca Chop doubled his career total with a gritty success in division one of the 1m5f handicap on Navan's card.

The 5/1 chance was bang in the firing line in the front group inside the final furlong. He raced on the inner and Patrick McGettigan drove him up in the closing stages to nab Proleek Prince (10/1) by half a length close home. Jazz Forever was a nose off the runner-up in third at 16/1 and was three-quarters of a length in front of Kevin The Great (16/5f).

Shane Duffy said: "He's been very consistent, very genuine.

"We were coming racing here today and saying we have had maybe 12 or 14 seconds and thirds for Sean Dalton (owner), so it was about time we got our head in front for him!

"We thought that he arrived there in Roscommon the last day to put the race to bed, and then just parked the bus a bit. We decided today just to switch things around a bit, put the visor on him and just make him gallop to the line.

"Patrick and I had a good chat before the race we decided we would try and get something to drag us to even the half furlong pole or so. He gave him a great ride, he kind of had him in a little pocket, and he kind of fought. It was a really good ride.

"He's a horse that had a lot of trouble - leg trouble, knee trouble. He's been like a small hospital, to be honest.

"It has been a long time since we had a winner, but it is great to get it."
