Derek O`Sullivan Dies

Derek O'Sullivan, founder director of Ireland's Racing Academy and Centre of Education, has died aged 59 after a long battle with cancer.

He was appointed the first director shortly after R.A.C.E was founded just under 30 years ago, and helped nurture the careers of many of Ireland's top jockeys including Johnny Murtagh and Conor ?Dwyer.

Former RACE chairman Stan Cosgrove said on Tuesday: 'He was totally dedicated to his job no matter what obstacles were placed in his way.'

O'Sullivan forged especially close personal ties in England with the Northern Racing College, whose director Jim Gale said: 'Above all else, Derek was a super person, whose devotion to his job was outstanding.'
