John Oxx admits he is facing a race against time to get Zand ready for the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown on May 12.

The Aga Khan-owned colt has a foot problem which caused him to miss the Ballysax Stakes at the Dublin track on Sunday.

Oxx will monitor Zand's progress over the next fortnight before assessing his chance of contesting the Group Two which he has won twice with Sinndar and Alamshar.

"We are trying to get him ready for the Derrinstown. He had a foot lameness recently and it was a bit more troublesome than we expected so we weren't able to train him for the Ballysax," said the Currabeg trainer.

"We're trying to get him right for the Derrinstown but it might be touch and go so we will just have to see how he progresses over the next two weeks.

"We would love to run him in it, but we will just have to see how it goes."

Zand, winner of the second of his two starts as a two-year-old, holds entries in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and both the English and Irish Derbies.
