Mr Diablo will bid to go one better in the Ladbrokes Troytown Chase at Navan on Sunday.

Philip Dempsey's charge ran a cracker in the €100,000 contest last year when chasing home Tout Est Permis and is reported in fine form ahead of his return to Navan this weekend.

The Presenting gelding also finished second at the Co. Meath venue when last seen in March.

Dempsey reported:- “Mr Diablo will go for the Troytown. He got injured in the spring at Navan and we’ve had this in mind to start him back.

“He injured a knee and is a horse that has had plenty of injuries through his career.

“He seems in great form. We had him away a few weeks ago and we’re happy with him.

“He’s a Presenting and the good ground probably suited him a bit better last year but hopefully it won’t be too bad.”

Dempsey also had news of another leading light for his stable, Derrinross.

The Scorpion gelding was a Grade 2 winner at Limerick last Christmas before finishing sixth in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham.

“Derrinross is back riding out. We weren’t happy with him after Cheltenham and (vet) Ger Kelly has been treating him.

“We have to decide whether we stay over hurdles or not but it will be at least February before he’s out. He’s only back trotting and will start cantering next month.

“Hopefully we’ll get a clean run with him. He’s fragile enough and is a horse that hasn’t had many runs in his career.”
