Diamond Dollar shaded an absolutely thrilling finish to Division 2 of the Focus Capital Handicap Hurdle at Limerick by the narrowest margin.

The six-year-old gelding travelled well in the straight for Philip Byrnes and came through to lead narrowly over two out. Uptaurintop was in no mood to relent, though, and rallied to ask questions of Diamond Dollar over the last. They jumped it together and settled down for a scrap on the run-in, however, Might Be The One finished strongly in third and was switched to the inner to get involved close home.

The three horses flashed past the post together and the judge awarded the race to Diamond Dollar (5/2) by a nose from Might Be The One (13/2) with Uptaurintop just a short head back in third at 50/1.

Charles Byrnes said: “We’re delighted to get the win.

"We were disappointed with him the other day, and we said we’d throw him back in. It was probably a weaker race today."

When asked if he thought he had held on he added: “Watching the still, definitely, but, watching it live, no. The horse on the near side always has the advantage here at Limerick.”

He scored in the colours of Byrnes Bloodstock Limited.
