Dods looking at Flying Five for Angel Mecca's Angel could return to Ireland for her next start following a narrow reverse at the Curragh on Saturday. The Michael Dods-trained four-year-old looked set for an exciting summer following an impressive display at Longchamp in early May, but sidestepped intended engagements at Royal Ascot and Sandown due to unsuitably fast ground. She was the odds-on favourite to make a successful comeback in Saturday's Sapphire Stakes, but with underfoot conditions again not considered ideal, she came up narrowly short against fellow British raider Stepper Point. Dods is pleased with how his star sprinter has taken her weekend exertions and has pencilled in the Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh on September 13 as a potential target. "She's come out of the race fine. I knew beforehand the ground wouldn't be ideal, but we let her take her chance and she ran well," said the trainer. "The winner is a good horse - he's finished second in a Nunthorpe and second in a King's Stand - so it wasn't going to be a walkover, that's for sure. "We would have like the ground a bit softer, but that's the way it goes and the she's taken the race well. "She's entered at Goodwood, but I doubt she'll go there. "She might go back to the Curragh for the Flying Five and there are Group races back in France we'll consider, but it will all depend on the ground."
