Drowne pays tribute to Logic

Steve Drowne has spoken of his sadness at the retirement of champion filly Queen`s Logic.

'It`s very sad. She is the best I`ve ridden by far - a champion,' said the jockey who partnered her to the last four of her five victories including her seven-length destruction of Sophisticat in the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket last October.

'All over the winter she was what everyone was looking forward to. I was so relieved when she won the Fred Darling so well. Since then nothing has gone her way.

'Over the winter everyone was saying you will win your Classics this year and she`ll clean up. And we could only get one run out of her.

'She has retired unbeaten but it`s a shame she couldn`t have proved it again as a three-year-old as I`m sure she would have.'

Trainer Mick Channon was preparing the filly for a tilt at the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood after a number of setbacks had restricted her to just one run this season.

The daughter of Grand Lodge was the winter favourite for the Sagitta 1000 Guineas but she was forced to bypass the event after she picked up a foot infection at the 11th hour.

Queen`s Logic was set to try to make amends in the Irish 1000 Guineas but again she was forced to miss the race after suffering from an infection.

The Jaber Abdullah-owned filly had just been stepped up in her work by Channon in order to prepare for Goodwood, but the handler revealed she has suffered a recurrence of the problem.

'She just gave a cough after a routine canter. We have scoped her and she has still got a lot of mucus on her lungs,' the West Ilsley explained.

'We had just started to do a little bit more with her, but it obviously hadn`t cleared up and it wouldn`t have been fair to train her with it.

'It is just a question of time - if she had two to three months off it is September by the time you get back and the season is over. There was the option to keep her in training at four but they have decided not to do that.'
