Dual Group One winner Venetian Sun set for December sales Dual Royal Ascot winner Venetian Sun has run her last race in the colours of Brighton supremo Tony Bloom and Ian McAleavy and is set to head to the sales later this year. Trained by Karl Burke, the daughter of Starman was a high-class two-year-old last term who scooped top honours in the Prix Morny and excelled once again this season, adding another Group One in the Commonwealth Cup before an honourable second in the July Cup most recently. A tendon injury potentially suffered in that Newmarket event has curtailed her on-track progress this term and he will now go under the hammer at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale, with the tantalising prospect of her being able to return to the track next season for whoever secures the prized lot. Managing A Growing Operation Bloom’s racing manager Sean Graham said: “Tony and Ian’s racing operation is growing year on year and Santorini Star and Sky Majesty are both being retired at the end of this season and it got to the stage where we were going to have to sell one of the good ones. “The thing about Venetian Sun is we’re not just selling her as a broodmare as the injury she had was not life-threatening and not career-ending. If someone buys her and the scans are all clear they could always race her next year as well. “Because the injury she had was minor enough in that it was a tear in a tendon, but was big enough we had to take a break and stop with her this year. But at the same time because Karl and his team spotted it early enough and dealt with it, it means the injury didn’t get worse. “She’ll head to the sales having given Tony and Ian some magical days and we’ve got yearling sales coming up and we’re just under a bit more pressure now to find another Venetian Sun.”
