Leading riders at Dundalk Donnacha O'Brien and Colin Keane fell foul of the stewards for their use of the whip in the 1m2f Dundalk Stadium Handicap on Wednesday night.

The pair fought out a protracted battle up the home straight as San Remo (O'Brien) beat Room To Roam (Keane) by a head.

The two jockeys were subsequently interviewed by the stewards regarding their use of the whip in the latter stages of the race.

Both rider were adjudged to be in breach of Reg. 10 3.f which relates to the frequency of the use of the whip.

Keane who hit his mount 13 times was suspended for one race day.

O'Brien hit his mount 12 times but was given a three day suspension as his previous record in this regard was taken into account.
