The John Flavin trained Duty Bound stayed on strongly under Donagh Meyler to win the featured KPH Construction 110 Series Final Handicap Hurdle at Killarney.

A winner on his penultimate start at Listowel in May, the gelding had run a solid race when bidding to follow up on his latest start at Tipperary.

Always towards the head of affairs here, Meyler was pushing along to close entering the home straight, as long time leader Folly Beach began to falter.

As the latter gave way two out, Duty Bound and Boston Rajj came through to dispute. Nothing separated that pair coming down to the last but a better jump at that final flight swayed the race in favour of Duty Bound. Duke Silver came with a strong late run to split the pair but Duty Bound just held on to score by half-a-length.

John Flavin said: "I didn't realise he had to run in a 0-110 to qualify for this Final so I gave him a quick spin in Tipperary a fortnight ago and I knew that run would bring him forward. It was fantastic to win this prizemoney with a 108-rated horse and he had also previously won another E25,000 pot in Listowel.

"Today's race worked out perfectly and they went a good gallop. He is wicked tough and I was happy the runner-up didn't come and beat him.

"Normally he would need time between runs, so I might just give him a minute. He has the option of going back over fences in time."
