Effernock rounds off memorable weekend for Ewing Effernock Fizz rounded off a memorable weekend for Sam Ewing as she claimed the feature at Ffos Las, the DragonBet Welsh Champion Hurdle. Trained by Cian Collins for owner/breeder Tommy Sheridan, the admirable seven-year-old was a fine second to Jessie Evans in the Grade 3 Horse & Jockey Hotel Hurdle at Tipperary last weekend and was sent off a 9/2 chance this afternoon. Adopting her customary front-running role, the Lovelace bay made all and kept up the gallop when ridden from the second last, going on to beat Milkwood by two lengths. Ewing rode at both Downpatrick and Dundalk on Friday, winning aboard Mads Black Eight at the all-weather venue. The Co Antrim native also partnered Peregrine Run to victory at Chepstow on Saturday and he said after his latest success: "If every weekend is like this I'd love to come back (across the Irish Sea)." He added: "It's brilliant to get it and I'm very thankful to everyone, especially Cian and Tommy for letting me ride her today. "She loves her racing and seems to be improve with race fitness. She had a great run last week and it's good to go one better today. "I picked up well from the back of the third last and from the back of the second last as well. She really stayed at it well to the line and tried hard."
