Eider Chase now a possibility for Captain Cj Captain Cj, soundly beaten in the Paddy Power Chase at the Leopardstown Christmas festival, has trainer Dermot McLoughlin now looking towards new year targets. A Grade Two winner in the Ten Up Novice Chase at Navan last February, the Westerner gelding ran well when third in the Porterstown Chase at Fairyhouse in November, but he hasn't come up to expectations in two other outings this season. “They went slow and the race wasn’t run to suit him (in the Paddy Power) but I was still a bit disappointed," said McLoughlin. “Once they quickened up he was left flat-footed. We thought there would be more of a pace and he needs a real stamina test. “I’m not sure where we will go next. The Eider in Newcastle is a possibility and the Irish National has always been the main target.”
