Elm Grove Goes In Search Of Black Type The Willie McCreery trained Elm Grove travels to Ayr tomorrow to contest the Tennent's British Stallion Studs EBF Rothesay Stakes a Listed race over 1m2f. The five-year-old has already been successful twice on home soil this season including when a wide margin winner of a handicap at Clonmel last time. She went up 12 pounds to a mark of 89 after that victory but that still leaves her with something to find on figures with her five rivals in tomorrow's £50,000 event. The opposition includes last year's first and second in the race, Maleficent Queen and More Mischief. The latter named ran twice in Ireland last year when finishing down the field in a Group 3 at Cork in August and also made no impact in a Listed contest at Galway the following month. Willie McCreery said of Elm Grove: He said: "She's in great form but I'm just hoping for a bit of Scottish rain. "Unfortunately I don't think we are going to get any but it's worth taking a chance to get some black type as there are only six runners. "She's definitely blossomed this season and with fillies and mares you never know where their improvement might stop. "They called the ground good to firm the last day at Clonmel but it was well watered. "Roger Varian's filly (Nezwaah) looks the stand-out on the ratings but we'll see how it goes." Nezwaah was due to run at the Newmarket Guineas meeting but broke out of the stalls and was withdrawn. The Newmarket handler told www.varianstable.com: "Nezwaah breaking through the stalls before her intended reappearance in the Dahlia Stakes was a freak occurrence and she has since passed a stalls test with flying colours. "This race is an equally nice starting point on decent ground and she looks the one to beat on official ratings. I hope she can make a winning start to her season."
