Enceladus shaded a battle with newcomer Almazann in the extended 10-furlong maiden in Cork.

The well-supported Almazann moved nicely into the lead outside the '2' pole, but was closely attended by twice-raced Enceladus.

It was nip and tuck from there with Zarak colt Almazann just holding sway, however, his more experienced rival nosed to the front in the closing stages for Declan McDonogh and hit the line a head to the good at 10/3 from the 9/4 runner-up. Both of these colts hold Irish Derby entries and the runner-up came in two lengths clear of Reynir (11/1).

Joseph O'Brien said: "He is a fine, big horse who had a few nice runs last year. It is nice to get him started but he is a big gross horse, so I thought he might come on from this first run, and I'm still hoping he could.

"We see him as a 1m4f horse and I suppose he is heading for a rating in the mid-80s or a bit higher now, so it would make sense to go into a three-year-old handicap of some sort. Hopefully, he can be progressive."
