Andy Slattery successfully teamed up with his son and namesake as Expert Dancer opened her account at the sixth attempt in division two of the Twilight Racing Summer Series Maiden at Limerick.

Slattery junior had to bide his time behind the front-running Monmouth before eventually gaining an opening on the inside rail inside the final furlong.

The 85/40 chance struck the front over 100 yards out and held off the strong finishing Rebel Wave by a head.

Monmouth couldn’t find any extra a further three lengths away in third.

Killenaule trainer Andy Slattery said, “She is her own worst enemy as she misses the break and missed it again today. She has run well in some good maidens, and it is great to a win with her as she isn't a bad filly.

“The ground was too quick for her the last day and she likes that ground, so we were happy to see the rain. She is a good filly who could get black type on soft ground.

“Maurice (Ahern) is a retired sheriff from Nenagh and owns her in partnership with a Tipperary syndicate.”
