The Grand National Festival at Aintree produced some fantastic action and we're looking out for some of the horses that caught eye in defeat over hurdles on Merseyside.

Neil Mulholland, Gordon Elliott, Jessica Harrington and Gary & Josh Moore all feature with contenders who should shine in the future.

Give It To Me Oj

A useful maiden on the Flat for Gary & Josh Moore, Give It To Me Oj has made progress since going over hurdles and looks sure to go on to better things in this code.

The Time Test gelding was placed behind East India Dock and Gibbs Island on his first two starts and then won at Newbury (2m, soft) in February.

After sidestepping Cheltenham he was stepped up in class for the Boodles Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle at Aintree and he duly produced a personal best to finish fourth.

He was always handily placed under Caoilin Quinn and, while he didn't have the power to go with the front trio from the second last, he was clear of the remainder. Handicaps and perhaps a step up further in trip should see him on the winning trail soon.

Wodhooh

Gordon Elliott's mare won her first seven starts over timber after joining the Cullentra team from Sir Michael Stoute and, while that winning sequence was ended in the Grade 1 Aintree Hurdle, she enhanced her reputation.

She arrived off the back of winning the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham and was left as the last one standing to put it up to Lossiemouth here.

Danny Gilligan's partner really served it up to the Willie Mullins mare, herself a proven winner at elite level, and it was only very late on that Lossiemouth got her measure.

Wodhooh looks sure to continue to operate in graded company going forward.

Ike Sport

Neil Mulholland will be hopeful that Ike Sport can get back to winning ways before too long.

The Spanish Moon gelding has plenty of experience now, with four wins and seven more placed efforts in his 21 starts over hurdles.

He was well held in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham, but ran a fine race in the William Hill Handicap Hurdle at Aintree (2m4f, good to soft) as he finished fifth in a race won by Wellington Arch for Jonjo & AJ O'Neill.

He was a bit keen early on sporting a first-time hood and did well in the circumstances.

He was 5lb lower in the ratings compared to his first hurdles run of the season at Sandown in December and should get a further ease from the assessor.

He does well on better ground and is now starting to look well handicapped for some early summer targets.

Jetara

Jessica Harrington's mare Jetara ran a cracker when third in the Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle behind Hiddenvalley Lake and Strong Leader.

She got to the front three out and stuck to her task well, only surrendering second spot late on.

She's developing a likeable record over three miles and could pop up again come Punchestown. She has made the frame 11 times in her 17 starts over timber, registering five wins.
