After a good run against older mares in a Leopardstown bumper, Shirzan (5/2, from 9/2 this morning) got off the mark on her second start over jumps in the Ryans Cleaning Fillies Maiden Hurdle at Limerick.

The Saxon Warrior homebred, owned by the Charles & Harry O'Reilly Partnership, tracked the leaders under Cian Cullinan and came through between horses to lead between the final two hurdles.

She went clear under a hand ride to post a five-length victory over 7/4 favourite Louie's Folly

Trainer Paul Fahey was leading up the winner and his son Aaron Fahey stated "Her homework had been very good and we've been happy with her previous runs. It all came together today.

"Her bumper run is working out very well, and that was on ground which we didn't think she was a fan of. Even today, we didn't think she'd love that ground but she is progressing well.

"She has a nice turn of foot and the plan today was to run along the rail and to wait for gaps to appear. She went straight into the gap and appeared to have plenty in the tank at the end. It was nice to get it and I wish they were all that easy!

"We'll see what rating she gets now and hopefully there'll be nice handicaps to be won with her. She can run through the summer."
