Fallon to ride Ballydoyle second string

Kieren Fallon will ride Michael Kinane`s reject in the Sagitta 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday, it emerged today.

Trainer Aidan O`Brien today revealed that Kinane would be on either Quarter Moon or Maryinsky with Fallon on the other.

Fallon has won the race twice on Sleepytime (1997) and Wince (1999), both trained by Henry Cecil, while Kinane has yet to land the fillies` Classic.

'Michael Kinane and Kieren Fallon between them will ride Quarter Moon and Maryinsky. I haven`t spoken to Michael yet as to which one, though I`d imagine he`d be on Quarter Moon,' said O`Brien this afternoon.

Kinane partnered Quarter Moon to victory in the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.

Maryinsky was beaten two and a half lengths by Gossamer in the Meon Valley Stud Fillies` Mile at Ascot last September before opening her account in a maiden at Gowran Park.

The Ballydoyle trainer, who will be four-handed in Sunday`s race, also confirmed riding plans for the other two.

'George Duffield will ride Pietra Dura and Paul Scallan will be on Lahinch,' he said.

'The four fillies had a canter and are all on target for Newmarket,' he added.

Quarter Moon is the shortest price of O`Brien`s quartet at 11-1 with William Hill, Maryinsky is 14-1 with Lahinch and Pietra Dura 33-1.

Kournakova will bypass the 1000 Guineas to run in the Athasi Stakes at the Curragh on Monday.

And Century City, who was taken out of the Sagitta 2000 Guineas at today`s final declaration, goes for the Tetrarch Stakes on the same card.
