Fallon to ride Brown Panther in English St Leger

Kieren Fallon is to ride Brown Panther in Saturday's Ladbrokes English St Leger at Doncaster.

The title-chasing jockey steps in for the mount aboard the Tom Dascombe-trained runner after his recent second in the Geoffrey Freer at Newbury, replacing Richard Kingscote, who has ridden the colt on all seven of his previous starts.

Fallon's agent Terry Norman said: "Kieren will be riding Brown Panther in the Leger.

"Tom rang this morning and said that he and Michael (Owen, owner) wanted Kieren to ride.

"He's delighted to be able to ride a horse that has a good chance on the form book."

Dascombe admitted it had been tough to jock-off Kingscote in favour of Fallon, who has yet to win the Leger in five attempts.

The trainer said: "It has been a very hard decision to make, but I spoke to Michael at length and it was decided on this occasion to go for a more experienced rider."

Brown Panther, who strolled home in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot earlier in the year, is one of 11 to stand their ground at the five-day stage for the final Classic of the season.
