Four miss Ascot feature

Today`s feature Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot was hit by four withdrawals this morning.

Bahamian Pirate, Caller One, Orientor and Feet So Fast were each announced as non-runners in the big race on the last day of the Royal meeting.

That left 12 runners to go to post for a six-furlong contest upgraded to Group One status and renamed (from the Cork And Orrery Stakes) in honour of The Queen`s Jubilee this year.

Most notable absentees among the quartet were Bahamian Pirate, who was cast in his box after final declarations on Thursday, and US challenger Caller One, who has reportedly been hit by a throat infection.

Asian Heights and Boreas were both pulled out of the Hardwicke Stakes on account of ground conditions which were described officially as good to firm, despite 4mm of rain at the track since the last race on Friday.

Ascot clerk of the course Nick Cheyne said: 'We had some rain about 7pm last night and then it rained heavily for quite a while at around 10pm.

'There was some more rain at about 5am today, all of which has helped to freshen up the course.'
