Lorna Fowler has outlined plans for stable star Colonel Mustard, with the high-class hurdler likely to be campaigned over fences this season.

Fourth on his debut over the larger obstacles at Navan last November, the Makfi eight-year-old was then beaten 19 lengths into second by subsequent three-time Grade 1 winner El Fabiolo.

Switched back to hurdles after that effort, he finished second, second and third on his next three starts, the latter of which came at the highest level.

"He's back in and we are going to put him over fences for sure," Fowler said of the French bred chestnut.

"Obviously he's had a couple of runs over fences before and he's done a good bit of schooling. He's in great form.

"I might take him to the UK for his first run in three or four weeks.

"We always have these big plans for Mustard every year and it often goes in a different way but it will be fences and I’ll look for a novice chase in the UK first. It might be Graded and there are options at Chepstow and Carlisle.

"It will be ground dependent and he doesn’t want it testing for sure."

A winner over flights at Thurles in March, Fowler also plans on sending Tophill Low over fences this season.

She added: "I’m also really looking forward to Tophill Low and I’m going to put her over fences this year.

"She’s enormous and I’m really looking forward to her."
