Frost Claims Ayr

Officials at Ayr have been forced to abandon Saturday's card due to a frozen track.

Clerk of the course Katherine Self was due to hold a 3pm inspection but brought forward her decision when it became clear the situation was hopeless.

'We've been on the track this afternoon and it's not getting any warmer and is still frozen on two thirds of the course,' she said.

'We were considering our options but the forecast is for temperatures just below freezing tonight and not getting any better tomorrow than it has been today.

'Being where we are ? with people having to set off from the south and from Yorkshire in this bad weather ? it's just not fair for us to leave it until tomorrow.'
