Elizabeth Gale got a new chapter to her riding career in Ireland off to a dream start when getting Sporting Hero up close home to land the opening Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap at Dundalk. Arctic Steps and Subiaco were prominent throughout in this five-furlong sprint, but Sporting Hero came home strongly towards the far side inside the final furlong to snatch the spoils.

The Denis Hogan-trained 11/2 shot touched off Arctic Steps by a short head, with Bold Optimist also finishing well just a neck further back in third and Subiaco in fourth.

Gale said, “I won the Ladies Derby in the Curragh last year. That's my second ride (in Ireland) and second winner.

"The lads that have ridden him before all said he is very straightforward, and that is what he is. He is professional, he knows his job and just keep it simple really and let him roll away.

"He stays on really well and he has won over six as well. He is definitely a staying type of sprinter.

"I actually rode out there (Hogan's) for the first time last week. I moved over to Ireland two weeks ago and I'm here to stay now. I'll just try and tip away, I've got the dual licence so I'm looking to ride over jumps again. If anyone is looking for a jockey, I'm around!

"Denis is brilliant and he has given me this lad today, and credit to him really as he does all the work with him.

"Brian Harding is my stepdad, so I'm down with my family, the Hardings, in Cork. I'm riding out pointers every day of the week, so it is class!"

Gale has ridden 23 winners in the UK under both codes as well as the Joseph O’Brien-trained Masoun in the Ladies Derby at the Curragh last summer.
