Gallagher Back On Former Champion

Dean Gallagher is to be reunited with Hors La Loi III for the first time since they won the 2002 Champion Hurdle in the totepool awaybet Beginners´ Chase at Chepstow on Saturday.

The Paul Green-owned 10-year-old has not raced since finishing well beaten in the Aintree Hurdle in April 2003, after which he was retired with a back problem.

Paul Nicholls took over training Hors La Loi III this year.

'Paul has been telling Mr Green the horse is in great shape, he´s very impressed with him, he´s motoring up the gallops, schooling excellently at home and he can´t wait to get him out on the track,' Gallagher, who is based in France, told At The Races.

'He has a few entries this week but Paul is quite keen to go to Chepstow on Saturday if the weather holds up.

'I just got a phone call from Paul Green asking me if I would be interested in riding him and obviously I am.

'The last time I actually rode him was when I won on him in the Champion Hurdle so it will be great to get across his back again.

'The horse has been schooled over plenty of obstacles so if he´s 100 per cent physically and mentally well, he could be anything over fences.'
