Gegenpressing (11/2) won consecutive renewals of Sligo’s Tote Never Beaten By SP Handicap today, gaining a third course win for joint-trainers Eddie and Patrick Harty and jockey Chris Hayes.

Successful at the Connaught course in 2022 and ‘24, today the seven-year-old raced in rear and while forced to challenge on the wide outside, finished well to beat My Kurkum

Patrick Harty reported “he’s turned into a family pet at this stage and loves it around here. He’s a great horse to have around, is a great lead horse, is good for the apprentices to learn on.”

Named after the German soccer term for ‘counter-pressing’, Gegenpressing is declared for tomorrow’s 5.20 at the Curragh and Harty mentioned “if the two meetings were the other way around and we had to drive three hours, we’d have had a good think about it but we’re five minutes up the road to the Curragh. It makes sense to run and Jessica O’Gorman will ride, all being well.”
