Teenage sensation Danny Gilligan faces a spell on the sidelines after breaking his collarbone from a fall at Downpatrick on Saturday.

Gilligan, who jointly leads the early stages of the National Hunt Jockeys' Championship with Patrick Mullins, has been riding at a 22 per cent strike rate this season after teaming up with Gordon Elliott's powerful stable.

His agent, Garry Cribbin, confirmed the injury from a fall on Run For Pat at the fourth-last fence in the opportunity beginners' chase at the northern venue, but advised that he shouldn't miss too much action as there is no National Hunt racing in Ireland between 22nd June and 3rd July.
