Glen Kiln put in an impressive display to scoop the Fairyhouse Steel Handicap Hurdle over an extended two-miles-five-furlongs on Irish Grand National Day.

The 13/2 shot was always in the front rank and picked off Eagles Reign into the straight. He travelled well for Cian Quirke to draw clear after the penultimate flight and had six and a-half lengths in hand at the line.

Eagles Reign came in second at 25/1 and was the same distance in front of Mywayofthinkin the 10/3 favourite.

Harry Kelly said: "Thankfully, Michael (Bowe, owner) always promised me if he couldn't train him, he would send him back to me. He did a fantastic job with him at home, himself and Brian Hayes.

"Michael just decided to claim off him today, just in case, but we didn't need it.

"I'm delighted, he is a smashing horse. I said to Michael quietly in the stable beforehand 'hopefully we will be here for the Grand National this time next year'.

"Michael and John and all the family are here today, and I'm delighted for them.

"To have a decent horse on a big day, sure it is fantastic."

Bowe was famously associated with Limestone Lad and Solerina, and Glen Kiln runs in the same colours.
