Goldikova now Breeders' Cup bound

Freddie Head described Goldikova as "brilliant" as he reflected on her record-breaking 11th victory at the highest level.

The five-year-old mare has won more Group/Grade One races than any other European-trained horse, going one better than Miesque.

And Head was associated with both - being Miesque's regular rider and the trainer of Goldikova.

"I'm very lucky to have to have had two fillies like that. To have ridden one and to train one," he said.

"You can't compare them. Goldikova is a much easier mare than Miesque, who was a real hard-puller. You can do a lot more things with Goldikova than Miesque."

Goldikova made history with a superb win in the Qatar Prix de la Foret at Longchamp on Sunday when she beat the Richard Hannon-trained colts, Paco Boy and Dick Turpin into second and third places.

"Goldikova was brilliant on Sunday," Head went on.

"It was a brilliant race, a brilliant ride from Olivier (Peslier), who rode a great race with a lot of cool and I must say she won very well.

"I was very happy with the her, the way she quickened. It was a tough race. She had to lead, then Regal Parade went early, then she just came back.

"It was amazing after the race she wasn't even blowing. She was cool when she came back. She was perfect - she didn't have a hard race.

"She's like a car. When she goes she has the speed and can do anything and at any distance.

"She is very good this morning. She ate up and she was fine."

Goldikova will now attempt to win the Breeders' Cup Mile for the third year running at Churchill Downs next month.

"It's the Breeders' Cup next - we hope so," Head added.

"It could be her last race. For the moment it is her last race. You never know, because the Wertheimers (owners) are very sporting people. They love to see her run and they will never get another one like her."
