Goodwood washed out

This evening's fixture at Goodwood has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

Course officials had little option but to call off the six-race Flat card following 35 millimetres of overnight rain.

Clerk of the course Seamus Buckley said: "We've had up to two inches of rain in the last 24 hours, and no ground could take that.

"We held an inspection at around 6.15am and the track was unraceable in places. There's also more rain forecast, so it's bitterly disappointing."

Saturday's meeting at Goodwood, featuring the totesport.com Celebration Mile, must pass an 8.30am precautionary inspection on Friday morning.

Clerk of the course Seamus Buckley is, however, buoyed by a favourable forecast on Friday. "There is talk of more rain coming through today, and then we are expected to be dry tomorrow and into the night on Saturday.

"If that's the case, we'd be pretty hopeful - but we may have to call a further inspection for later that day," added Buckley.

Goodwood are also due to race on Sunday.
