Gordon Lord expected back soon Tom Hogan expects Gordon Lord Byron to return to action "fairly soon" despite suffering injury in Saturday's Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock. Winner of the race in 2013 and also runner-up in two renewals, the seven-year-old returned to Merseyside as a major contender, but weakened quickly when coming under pressure and passed the post 10th of the 15 runners. Hogan revealed afterwards that, not for the first time, his stable star had suffered a back problem, but he is hopeful he will not be on the sidelines for too long after subsequently having treatment. "The vet came over from England, he identified the problem and has dealt with it," said the trainer. "He is prone to back problems and it's just unfortunate it happened on Saturday as otherwise he was in tremendous form. "We have to deal with these things all the time and hopefully we'll get it right the next day. "We'll see how he is tomorrow, but he should be back in action fairly soon." Gordon Lord Byron holds a couple of entries this coming weekend in Saturday's Clipper Logistics Boomerang Stakes at Leopardstown and Sunday's Derrinstown Stud Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh.
