At 4pm on Saturday afternoon, punters, families, friends and people across the world will gather to watch the world’s most famous race, the Aintree Grand National, which will be staged under glorious sunshine in Merseyside.

The stamina-sapping test over 4 miles and 2 furlongs showcases the agility and speed of its thoroughbred athletes, as well as the unshakeable courage of those brave enough to jump on board.

A total of 34 runners will line up and the competitive nature of this unique race means there is plenty of value on offer.

Emma Nagle takes a look at all of this year's Grand National contenders.

Editor Vincent Finegan, is the man to follow at the moment as he revels in a purple patch, having come out of a tricky Cheltenham Festival in profit and subsequently tipped up weekly winners on the site. Here is Vincent’s 1-2-3-4 in the big event at Aintree.

1 - No. 28 Vanillier

Finished second in the 2023 Grand National and arrives here in top form with two very good performances in cross-country races. Stays, jumps well and looks a solid contender with a clear round.

2 - No. 1 I Am Maximus

Last year’s winner and campaigned all season with this race in mind. Big chance again, but an extra six pounds on his back this time may be enough to anchor him.

3 - No. 10 Stumptown

Finished in front of Vanillier when winning the cross-country race at Cheltenham last month and has built up a terrific partnership with Keith Donoghue. Lack of experience of the Aintree fences is the only slight negative.

4 - No. 32 Three Card Brag

A front runner who lacks experience, but has the assistance of top rider Sean Bowen. Not certain to see out the distance, but no surprise to see a bold showing for a long way.
