The Jessica Harrington trained Green Impact relished the step up in trip when battling on in resolute fashion to win the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Glencairn Stakes (Listed Race) at Leopardstown.

Twice successful over a mile at this track as a juvenile, the Wootton Bassett colt finished sixth in the English 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on his three-year-old reappearance.

Having been forced to miss the French Derby at the eleventh hour, the 11/8f regained the winning thread here by making virtually all under Shane Foley. Azada threw down a strong challenge early in the straight but had no more to offer over a furlong out. Currawood came through to join the winner over 100 yards from home but couldn't match his never say die attitude close home.

Jessica Harrington said: “Nobody wanted to go on and he only dosses in front. Shane said he was squeezing him along all the way.

“When the other horse came to him it looked like he was going to go past him, but he keeps lengthening.

“All being well he’ll go straight to the Irish Derby. Shane can’t wait to see him run over a mile and a half.

“I know he’s by Wootton Bassett but he’s out of a Galileo mare so you’d hope that he will stay.

“I think he can go on any ground. That’s ideal for him, it’s good ground and there is no yielding in it.”

Paddy Power left Green Impact unchanged at 16/1 for the Irish Derby and 33/1 Eclipse Stakes.
