Griff team leaning towards Curragh rematch Connections of Derby runner-up Lazy Griff are leaning towards a rematch with Lambourn at the Curragh on Sunday. The Charlie Johnston-trained colt got closest to the Ballydoyle horse at Epsom, when a three-and-three-quarter length runner-up in the blue riband event. Alternative options are also under consideration for the German-bred son of Protectionist but the Curragh is the front-runner at the moment. “It’s going to be a very tough decision but a nice problem to have, that’s for sure, to be choosing which Group 1 to run in,” Johnston told journalist Dave Keena. “I think I can speak on behalf of the owners and myself to say that we would love to have a runner in the Irish Derby, that would be a hugely special moment for me and for Middleham Park Racing. “We would be going into the lion’s den to take on Coolmore and Lambourn again in their back yard. “He does have alternative options but we’re very strongly considering the Irish Derby. “The opposition, the ground, those sort of factors will dictate where but it’s certainly at the forefront of ours minds at the moment.”
