Ground key to Caponata bid Connections of Caponata will make a late call over the participation of the filly in the Abu Dhabi Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday. Trainer Dermot Weld will walk the course before racing to assess conditions as the daughter of Selkirk requires some ease in the going. The lightly-raced four-year-old has shown a decent level of form on soft ground and made a winning reappearance under suitable conditions in a Listed contest at Gowran Park in April. "Dermot is going to walk the course in the morning to decide on her participation," said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah. "She definitely wants a good cut in the ground. If it's not safe ground for her she won't run. "That having been said, she came out of the Victor McCalmont very well, so we are very happy with her physically."
