Ground now good to firm at Ascot No rain was seen at Royal Ascot overnight and the going has now been changed to good to firm (good in places). Chris Stickels, Clerk of the Course, said this morning: "The jockeys and trainers seemed really happy with the ground yesterday and everything went very well on a great racing surface for the first day of Royal Ascot. "I thought the ground might dry a bit more yesterday. I think it will dry a little bit today. "The straight course seems very fair right across. We could have thundery showers after racing today and tonight. Tomorrow looks to be a mixture of sunshine and showers. "Today is going to be very warm but it will become cooler from tomorrow."
