Paul Hanagan is set to jet off for a winter stint in Bahrain.

The former champion jockey, who is now riding as a freelance, was speaking to Racing TV after guiding 5/4 favourite Makanah home by a nose at Musselburgh yesterday.

Hanagan said: "Ticking away, it's not easy freelance. Still enjoying it and it's nice to get a nice winner today.

"I'm actually off to Bahrain this winter for Sheikha Hissa, so I'm going to do probably a few months out there and hopefully bang in a few winners over there.

"It used to be Dubai with Sheikh Hamdan, that was about five winters over there. I've been to Bahrain a couple of times, but not for the full stint.

"I'm looking forward to it, fresh challenge. They have been wanting me a few years and I've been tied, so I've not got many ties now and just really looking forward to it.

"They race one day a week so I am going to have to take the (golf) clubs, there's a lot of improvement in me anyway!"
