Eddie Harty has revealed that he plans to have a joint training licence with his son Patrick in 2021.

The Curragh handler has been better known as a national hunt trainer in the past but the focus has moved more to the Flat in recent years.

Star names such as Captain Cee Bee, 2008 Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner, and Coney Island (Drinmore Chase) have given Harty Grade 1 glory over jumps.

Training partnerships were introduced in Britain last year with Simon Crisford and his son Ed the first to take out a joint licence.

The move looks set to be mirrored here and Harty is keen to take advantage:-

“Patrick will be coming on board with me as a licence holder during the year. We’re going to have a joint licence as soon as we can get it through which I have been seeking for a long time.

“It’s a very expensive business for someone to get into on their own and with that in mind I’d like to have a nucleus of horses that he can go to war with — a competitive number from a racing point of view and a commercial point of view.

“We have a team of about 30 for the Flat which is more than we’ve had for a long time, with about ten two-year-olds.

“I’m looking forward to it. It’s a different venture but the rules of the game are still the same — you’ve got to have them fit and they’ve got to win. I’m looking forward to it.”
