HORSE IN OLIVER TRAGEDY FAILED DRUG TEST

Savage Cabbage, the horse involved in Australian jockey Jason Oliver`s death following a two-furlong barrier trial at Belmont Park, Perth late last month, has failed a drugs test.

Oliver was buried last Thursday - just two days after his brother Damien gained an emotional win on Dermot Weld`s Media Puzzle in the Melbourne Cup.

The West Australian Turf Club has confirmed that Savage Cabbage`s urine sample contained traces of two non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs, phenylbutazone and oxyphenbutazone.

Savage Cabbage, who shattered a leg in the incident and was later put down, crushed his rider after crashing to the ground.

The WATC are to hold a full inquiry on November 29, when trainer Steve Wolfe will be required to give evidence. Five jockeys and an apprentice are also due to attend the hearing.
