HRI MEMBER LANDS PRESTIGIOUS INTERNATIONAL RACING JOB Following the inaugural meeting of the International Racehorse Owners Association(IROA) in Bangalore, India this week it was announced that Mr Peter McCarthy, Chairman of the Irish Racehorse Owners Association and a Director of Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) will be Chairman of the world body.McCarthy has worked tirelessly in his role as Chairman of the Irish Racehorse Owners Association and his vast wealth of experience gained in the racing and breeding industry will be a huge benefit to this newly formed international organisation.The idea of bringing together racehorse owners on a common platform was first mooted in February last year at Hong Kong as an effective vehicle to safeguard its members interests and the new Association`s vision is to be an integral part of the racing industry worldwide. Its objectives are to promote Racehorse Ownership, to enhance Racehorse Owners Rights, Privileges and Returns and to facilitate the development of global communication amongst Racehorse Owners Associations.Peter McCarthy will be assisted by two Vice Chairmen namely Dr. Vijay Mallya of the Indian Racehorse Owners Federation and Mr. David Metzger of the U.S. Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association.The IROA permanent secretariat is based in Hong Kong under the stewardship of Mr Joseph Lo,former Chairman of the Hong Kong Owners` Association with Sir John Swain, former Chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and also former President of the Hong Kong Legislative Council as its Honorary Advisor. The other council members are Mr. Ben Chan of New South Wales Racehorse Owners Association, Mr. Yuzo Tanimizu of Japan Owners` Association, Dr. Ricardo Soler of Argentine Breeders and Racehorse Owners Association, and Mr. Jim Furlong, President of the Racehorse Owners Association in the U.K., and a Director of BHB.
