Huntingdon gets the go ahead

This afternoon's fixture at Huntingdon has been given the green light after a threat of flooding had put the meeting in jeopardy.

The track was raceable when clerk of the course Andrew Morris staged an 8am inspection, but there was still a lingering threat to the National Hunt card in Cambridgeshire.

Although on-site conditions are being monitored - water levels of the surrounding brooks had risen considerably overnight - officials were happy to give the meeting the thumbs-up later in the morning.

A statement issued by Huntingdon read: "The water levels have remained at a fixed depth."

"Through consultation with the safety officer, chairman of the stewards panel and managing executive, the decision has been made for racing to go ahead. However, the level will be continually monitored throughout the day."

Jump racing, which has been blanked out by the weather for nearly two weeks in Britain, also takes place at Kempton this afternoon. This is also Flat all-weather action at Lingfield.
