Hygge 'might have found his niche' on Flat Easy-to-back Hygge mugged Treasure Rose in a race of changing fortunes in the FEXCO Maiden over an extended mile at Killarney. Treasure Rose came with what looked a winning hand as she collared Tyraxes inside the final furlong and went for home. Declan McDonogh, on board Hygge for Gordon Elliott, was having none of it, though, as his charge improved into third and surged past Treasure Rose close home for a neck success at 20/1 having opened at 9/1. The runner-up was the 6/5 favourite and she was a length and a-half in front of Coul Dreamer at 5/1. Hygge had finished third in all four starts over flights (two academy hurdles and two maiden hurdles) and was making his Flat debut. He's certainly bred for this game as a half-brother to two Flat winners. Stable representative Ryan McElligott said: "Gordon quite liked him last autumn, but it didn't work out for him over hurdles where it didn't happen for him. "He has a pedigree which suggests he could do well on the Flat and did that nicely, and would have been an unlucky loser. He might have found his niche now. "He could go up in trip, a galloping track would probably suit although after winning a maiden first-time, he could be hard to place. "The owners will have plenty of fun with him, though."
