The Ashgrove Renewables Maiden Hurdle, over two miles and a furlong, was the opener at Cork and it went to the Gordon Elliott-trained Hygge

The 11/0 favourite, in the Wodhooh colours of  the Sundowners Syndicate, had finished third on all four previous starts over flights before winning a one-mile maiden on his Flat debut at Killarney in May.

Here, he tracked the pace-setting Mont Star and travelled well to lead before two, drawing clear to beat that rival by eight lengths.

"He jumped well and it was fairly straightforward, a nice performance," said rider Jack Kennedy

"He was a little bit on it for me down the back when one came up beside me, but it was a lot simpler than in his previous hurdle runs and he's after growing up a good bit.

"He was good when he won his maiden (on the Flat) the last day and hopefully he's on an upward curve now."
