Irish Team for Oz announced

The team for the annual 15th Irish vs Australian Jump Jockeys has been announced ahead of the biannual trip to Australia.

Galway Plate winning jockey Roger Loughran heads the Irish team and, as senior rider, has been appointed spokesman for the team which also includes Matthew Bowe, Alan Crowe and Pat Mangan.

Sean Lynch, the Irish Team's manager, stated at Galway today "this is the 15th year of the Series and the Irish are well ahead for the previous 14 years."

He added "after this year's trip, 100 Irish jockeys will have travelled down under and over the years many of the best Irish riders have participated in the Series. The first year included Frank Berry, Tommy Carmody, Joe Byrne and Tony Mullins while Charlie Swan and Paul Carberry are among the biggers names to have travelled over."

"I'm delighted with this year's team and we've appointed Roger as spokesman. We begin at a racemeeting at Balaclava, north of Adelaide, on August 31 and finish in Victoria, on September 5."
