Jem Ready For Ouija Challenge

Polar Jem is on course to tackle Ouija Board and company at Newmarket on Saturday after delighting connections in a gallop.

The five-year-old mare runs in the Princess Royal John Doyle Stakes, a Group Three contest for fillies and mares over a mile and a half, rather than the Rosemary Stakes (Handicap) over a mile on the same card as long as the ground remains good.

'She worked super - better than ever,' said trainer George Margarson.

'She worked on the Summer Gallop - we thought we´d put her back on the grass - while Ouija Board was on the Cambridge Road gallop.

'If Ouija Board runs then you´d think she´d be nailed on, but our mare has prospects of a place.

'She´s rated 99 but I think she should be on 105.

'It´s perfect ground at the moment. There´s some rain forecast but we´ll certainly declare her for the Princess Royal.'

Margarson believes Polar Jem can bounce back after a poor run on her latest start when she was only fifth of six behind Imperial Stride in the September Stakes earlier in the month after making most of the running.

'She wasn´t 100% last time. It was my fault although it turned out to be a hotter race than I thought. The Whistling Teal was well beaten in it but he was a cracking third in the Irish Leger last Saturday. I ran her too soon after Windsor,' he said.
