Kauto among bet365 90

Kauto Star features among the 90 entries for the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown on April 23.

The dual Gold Cup winner is one of 10 possibles for champion trainer Paul Nicholls, with the Sir Alex Ferguson-owned What A Friend another notable name from Ditcheat.

Philip Hobbs has the largest numerical squad with 13, including impressive Racing Post Chase winner Quinz, who is set for a Grand National tilt on April 9, and Wishfull Thinking, another smart novice.

The Sandown event, worth £140,000, has also attracted 13 entries from Ireland, including last year's winner, the Michael Hourigan-trained Church Island.

Andrew Cooper, director of racing at Sandown, said: "We are pleased with the initial entry and it will be fascinating to hear of plans for Kauto Star following Cheltenham.

"As ever there is also a strong Irish contingent entered and we hope to welcome them to Sandown Park at the end of April.

"It always makes for a good race when you have a mixture of Gold Cup, King George, Grand National and previous bet365 Gold Cup winners among the horses entered."
