Ballinasloe trainer Muredach Kelly was on the mark at Wolverhampton this afternoon as his Canon Law took the Coral Connect Handicap.

The five-year-old son of Holy Roman Emperor was making his debut for Kelly today having previously been under the care of Albert Moriarty.

Sent off an 8/1 chance he was ridden to chase the clear leader, Tizlove Regardless, from over two furlongs out.

He closed to challenge in the straight and got up in the final strides to prevail by a neck.

Graham Gibbons was aboard the successful bay and he was completing a double having earlier took the third aboard Gold Club.

Kelly had two other runners at the West Midlands venue with Lucky Boo finishing down in the field in opener while Bitusa ran a fine race to finish third in the second.
