Killarney to avoid clash with Munster Football Final Following a request by Killarney Racecourse, the HRI Fixtures Committee has approved that Killarney’s National Hunt fixture on Sunday, May 10 be swapped with the National Hunt fixture at Cork the day before, Saturday, May 9. This change follows confirmation that the Munster Football Final will take place on Sunday, May 10. Kerry are the reigning All-Ireland champions and would be expected by many to qualify for the Munster Final and a likely home fixture in Killarney. Regional Sporting Conflict Prompts Proactive Schedule Shift Manager at Killarney Racecourse, Karl McCay, said: “On behalf of Killarney Racecourse, I would just like to offer our appreciation to everyone at Cork Racecourse for switching days with us that weekend in May. “There is a lot of football to be played before May but once the dates were confirmed we thought it best to be proactive and seek a swap with Cork. A Munster Final in Killarney on the same day as a race meeting would have had a significant impact on stable staff travelling horses, as well as on connections, other industry staff and racegoers intending to be there. "Swapping the dates at this juncture was the easiest and most pragmatic solution, so thanks again to our friends at Cork and to the HRI Fixtures Committee for accommodating this request.” Kerry have won the Munster Football Championship in 12 of the last 13 years and brought their haul of All-Ireland Football Titles to a record 39 when beating Donegal by ten points (1-26 to 0-19) last year.
