Kodi Bear on track for Celebration Mile Saturday's Doom Bar Celebration Mile at Goodwood remains a possible target for the hugely exciting Kodi Bear. A Listed winner as a juvenile before filling the runner-up spot in the Dewhurst, Clive Cox's colt made a successful start to his campaign in Windsor's Midsummer Stakes at the end of June. He was far from disgraced when fourth in the Group One Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly next time and continued his progress with a Group Three triumph in last month's Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury. The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot in October has been identified as a potential long-term objective, but Cox is keen to give his charge more match practice and this weekend's feature on the Sussex Downs is the first option. Cox said: "As we said after Salisbury, he is well entered up and we have confirmed him this morning for the Celebration Mile on Saturday. "We'll see how the race looks and take a view in the next couple of days. We'll just take things one step at a time. "He seems very versatile ground-wise. The ground was on the easy side at Salisbury and he seemed to cope with it very well. "If the forecast is correct, he would probably encounter something similar at Goodwood, so we'll see." Kodi Bear is one of 11 horses confirmed for the Group Two contest and could face some interesting opponents if he takes his chance. Lightning Spear might have his sights lowered by Olly Stevens after running with plenty of credit when fourth at the highest level in the Prix Jacques le Marois. Jersey Stakes winner Dutch Connection could look to get back on the winning trail for Charlie Hills following successive runner-up finishes in the Prix Jean Prat and the Lennox Stakes. Hills has also confirmed Cable Bay, while the John Gosden-trained Richard Pankhurst could make his return from a long lay-off for John Gosden. The Richard Fahey-trained Gabrial has shown good form at the track, finishing third in the Sussex Stakes for the second time late last month but was down the field at York on Saturday. The other contenders are Breton Rock, Hors De Combat, Captain Cat, Balty Boys and Fire Ship.
