Lantern to stay in training Sky Lantern is set to stay in training as a four-year-old as connections continue to consider the options for their Classic heroine. The Richard Hannon-trained filly landed the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, beating Just The Judge by half a length to give jockey Richard Hughes a first British Classic win. The runner-up has since boosted the form by winning the Irish equivalent and a rematch between the two in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot remains a possibility. Given Sky Lantern could continue her career in 2014, the Hannon team are mulling whether to postpone a step up to middle distances or take the plunge in the French Oaks and bypass Ascot. Speaking on the trainer's website, Richard Hannon jnr said: "Mr Keswick (owner) is very keen to keep Sky Lantern in training next year, which is great news for the sport and even better news for us. "We have always thought that she might stay further, and maybe next year is the time to experiment over a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half, but we are still considering a tilt at the Prix de Diane (French Oaks) this season, and that race is the Sunday before the Royal meeting. "Obviously, the Coronation Stakes comes into the equation and there is no place like Royal Ascot, but that race is worth £350,000 whereas the Diane carries prize money of a million euros, so, while we would love to have a Coronation rematch with Just The Judge, the Irish 1000 Guineas winner, we need to sit down and decide which route we take."
