Lexus For L'Ami

L'Ami will head to Ireland for the Lexus Chase over Christmas rather than attempt to earn trainer Francois Doumen an incredible sixth victory in the Stan James King George VI Chase.

Now owned by JP McManus, the seven-year-old finished fourth in last season's King George before taking the same position in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

He still holds an entry at Kempton, but Doumen believes a run at Leopardstown is the more likely option.

'His main objective is the Lexus,' said the Frenchman.

'If it got a bog there, then he may change for the King George. Obviously I'd prefer to win it for a sixth time but I have got to look after the horse and conditions at Leopardstown would seem to be very suitable and he will be aimed at that.'

After a warm-up run at Auteuil, L'Ami finished third to Kauto Star in the Betfair Chase at Haydock last month.

'It was a brilliant run, as he was still a little short and he was only beaten a little way behind Beef Or Salmon,' said Doumen.

'He's very well, and has come on a lot since. Kauto Star is very good, and I might avoid him if I may.'
